BOARDMAN - The Knappa Loggers defeated the Riverside Pirates 27-6 on Saturday, September 21, 2013. It was homecoming for the Pirates. It was a nice afternoon with the temperature around 70 degrees.
Knappa led 12-0 at the start of the second half. Riverside took the kickoff and put together an eight play drive that ended in a punt to Knappa. Knappa then drove seven plays. With a 2nd and 16 on the Pirates 34 yard line Knappa threw a pass that was picked off by Gavin Roberts and returned at least 66 yards for a touchdown with 4:34 to go in the third quarter. The two point conversion was missed. Knappa led 12-6.
The next score occured in the fourth quarter. The Loggers put together a 13 play drive that covered 69 yards and took over six minutes to play out. The touchdown was scored on a one yard run with 3:12 to go in the game. The Loggers made a two point conversion to take the 20-6 lead.
Riverside then put together a six play series that ended on the Loggers' 15 yard line when Knappa intercepted a pass and returned it to the 43 yard line.
Four plays later Knappa scored on a one yard run. The PAT was good giving the Loggers the 27-6 lead with 1:37 to go.
The Knapper kickoff was a squibber that bounced around until a Logger grabbed it. Then on the first play a Riverside player went down with a possible head injury with 1:18 to go in the game. When the ambulance was called the referees called the game with 1:18 left on the clock. When the player was loaded into the ambulance he gave a thumbs up to the waiting crowd. Knappa won the game 27-6.
