HERMISTON - The Centennial Eagles defeated the Hermiston Bulldogs 49-48 on Friday, January 17, 2014. The Eagles won on two free throws by Deamond Stoudamire with 5.6 seconds to play in the game. It was a very competitive game with the teams tied or exchanging the lead at least 24 times. The biggest lead by both teams was five points. Hermiston led by five in the opening two minutes of the game. Centennial led by five at 2:50 in the first.
Hermiston took early control of the game with Ramon Contreras hitting a jumper and CJ Flores shooting a trey. Centennial came right back with Drek Melvin hitting a trey and another Eagle hitting a jump shot tieing the game at 5-5. Jon Kuykendall of the Eagles then scored followed by Nathaniel Lynn to give Centennial the 10-5 lead. Centennial held on to the lead for the rest of the first. Scoring for the Eagles were Duran Andrews and Dezmond Stoudamire. Scoring for the Dawgs included Jake Flyg and Carter Christiansen. Centennial led by three at the end of the first 17-14.
Hermiston out scored the Eagles 15-11 in the second period. The teams tied or the exchanging the lead nine times in the second period. Scoring for Centennial in the second included Dezmond Stoudamire and Duran Andrews. Scoring for the Dawgs included Ramon Contreras, Keegan Crafton, Lucas Wyant and CJ Flores. Hermiston led by one at halftime, 29-28.
The third period was a low scoring one with the Eagles out scoring Hermiston 8-5. Scoring for the Eagles included Dezmond Stoudamire, Drek Melvin and Nathaniel Lynn. Hermiston's scoring came from Ramon Contreras and Lucas Wyant. Centennial led by two at the end of the third, 36-34.
Hermiston out scored Centennial 14-13 in the third period. The teams exchanged the lead eight times in the back and forth play of the forth period. Hermiston took the 48-47 lead with 1:22 to go in the game. A foul by Hermiston sent a Centennial player to the line with 15.3 seconds to play. The Eagle missed the free throws. Centennial's Dezmond Stoudamire was fouled by a Bulldog with 5.6 seconds to go in the game. Hermiston led 48-47 as Stoudamire went to the line and sank two free throws to give the Eagles the 49-48 win.
