UMATILLA - The 3A Umatilla Vikings defeated the 1A Helix Griswold Grizzlies in 3-2 in five sets on Tuesday, September 9, 2014.

Helix won the first set. Moving on to action in the second set the Vikings came out strong and took the lead early on. The Vikings led 11-3 just past the 1/3 mark of the set. The Vikings had several nice runs of serve in the second set. Umatilla took the second set 25-8.

The third set started off a little tighter with the teams even up to being tied at 10-10. The Vikings had a six point run of serve during that part of the set that gave them a 14-10 lead when Helix won the side out. Helix was able to stay close getting to with in two points with Umatilla leading 17-15. Umatilla then had two nice runs of serves to take the thied set 25-16.

Umatilla started off strong in the fourth set leading by 10, 17-7 at the 2/3rds point of the set. Helix clawed their way back to tie it up at 22-22. Helix then edged out the Vikings to take the fourth set 25-23.

With the teams tied 2-2 they moved on to the first to 15 fifth set. It was a back and forth set with the teams tied or exchanging the lead ten times. the last tie was at 12-12. Umatilla played tough and took the fifth set 15-13 and the match 5-3.
