HERMISTON - The Hermiston Bulldogs defeated the Lewiston, Idaho Bengals 52-26 on Friday, September 26, 2014 for a 4-0 undefeated season so far. It was clear with a temperature around 75 degrees at the the start of the game.
The first half was low scoring as the teams seemed to farily evenly matched with the play. Hermiston exploded for 42 points in the second half. Every bounce seemed to go Hermiston's way.
The teams were tied 7-7 in the second quarter when Luis Medina nailed a field goal to give the Dawgs the 10-7 lead with 6:10 to go in the first half. The Bengals then scored on a five play drive but missed the PAT. That TD gave the Bengals the 13-10 lead with 3:37 to go in the first half. The teams exchanged possession of the ball over the final three minutes of the first half but neither team scored. Lewiston led at halftime, 13-10.
Things turned around for the Bulldogs in the second half as they scored 42 points. Especially good for the Dawgs was the fourth quarter when they scored 28 points.
Hermiston's first score in the second half came on their first possession on a four play drive capped by a 17 yard touchdown pass from Chase Knutz to Carson Morter. The PAT was good giving Hermiston the 17-13 lead.
Lewiston came right back and scored on a ten play drive that ran out of steam so they had settled for a field goal ant the 19-17 lead with 3:57 to in the third quarter.
Hermiston didn't waste any time coming right back and scoring on a six play drive that ended on a 17 yard touchdown run by Samuel Colbray. The PAT was good giving the Dawgs the 24-19 lead. The Dawgs held the lead for the rest of the game.
Hermiston started off their 28 point fourth quarter with Carson Morter picking off Lewiston's 3 and 10 pass from the 43 yard line pass and returning it for a touchdown. The PAT was good giving Hermiston the 31-19 lead with 11:46 to go in the game.
Lewiston then scored on an eight play drive that ended on a 30 yard run. The PAT was good cutting Hermiston's lead to five, 31-26.
Hermiston came right back with a three play that started off with a pass to Keegan Crafton for a huge gain. Two running plays later Hermiston scored on a 24 yard run by Samuel Colbray. The PAT was good giving the Dawgs the 12 point lead, 38-26.
Hermiston scored on their next possession after a Lewiston punt. The four play drive ended on 10 yard run by Cory Adams. The PAT was good giving Hermiston the 19 point lead 45-26 with 6:29 to go in the game.
Lewiston next possession ran out of steam and the Dawgs took over after a 4th down incomplete pass on the 40 yard line. Three plays later Cory Adams scored again on a two yard run. The PAT was good giving Hermiston the 52-26 lead with 3:55 to go in the game.
Lewiston then put together a clock chewing 12 play drive that ended with Cory Adams intercepting a pass for the Dawgs with 19.2 seconds to go in the game. Chase Knutz then took the knee and ran out the clock giving Hermiston the 52-26 win.
