IRRIGON - The Culver Bulldogs defeated the Irrigon Knights 14-8 in football on Friday, October 3, 2014. It was a clear, cool night with the temperature around 65 degrees at game time. A nice night for homecoming for the Knights.
The first half was scoreless with the teams exchanging possession of the ball.
Things finally went Irrigon way when Culver fumbled the ball and Irrigon recovered on the their own 32 yard line with 5:55 to go in the third quarter. On the first play of their possession Fredy Veraran right 68 yards for the touchdown. The two point conversion was good giving Irrigon the 8-0 lead.
Irrigon led 8-0 at the end of the third quarter when the horn sounded.
Culver took possession of the ball with 23 seconds to go in the third quarter and went on a five play drive that ended in a 9 yard touchdown run by Cruzito Sevia at 10:20 of the fourth quarter. Culver was unsuccessful with the two point conversion cutting Irrigon's lead to two, 8-6.
Culver scored again about a minute later when an Irrigon pass was batted around, picked off by a Culver defender and returned for a touchdown. Culver scored the two point conversion giving them the 14-8 lead with 8:16 to go in the game.
Irrigon tried mightily to put scoring drives together but one ended in a fumble and another ended with an incomplete pass on fourth down. Culver took the last possession with 2:16 to go and ran out the clock.
