STANFIELD - The Stanfield Tigers hosted a volleyball tournament on Saturday, October 4, 2014. The teams included Weston McEwen, Pilot Rock, Heppner and Stanfield. Here's a short report on the afternoon match between Pilot Rock and the host team Stanfield.
the Pilot Rock Rockets defeated the Stanfield Tigers three games to one in the last match of the day at Stanfield. Pilot Rock scores were 25-13, 20-25, 25-20 and 25-7
The first game started out very competitive with the teams tied or exchanging the lead twelve times until the Rockets took the lead for good at 11-10. Megyn Glynn of the Rockets then went on a long run serve which had Pilot Rock scoring ten points to take a 20-10 lead. Stanfield grabbed a few side outs but Pilot Rock was on a roll as they went on to win game one 25-13.
The second game started out with the teams showing a lot of fire power. The teams were only tied once at 5-5 and then Stanfield tookt he lead at 6-5. Stanfield never relinquished the lead after that extending their lead to a maximum of seven points. Some of Stanfield's scoring power came from something like eight kills. Stanfield won game two 25-20.
Game three had the teams tied or exchanging the lead 11 times. Once Pilot Rock took the lead at 19-18 they squeeked ahead to win the third game 25-20.
Pilot Rock was unstoppable in the fourth game. Stanfield was still within range of catching up with the Rockets when Bailey Weinke and Pilot Rock went on a 12 point run of serve to take a 23-5 lead. Stanfield tried to break the Rockets serve but they couldn't win a side out. Pilot Rock won game four 25-7.
