BOARDMAN - The Riverside Pirates defeated the Culver Bulldogs 5-2 in soccer action on Saturday, October 18, 2014. It was nice sunny day with the temperature around 74 degrees at game time. The match was close at times even though Riverside dominated shots on goal.
Culver scored first in the fourth minute of play on a drive on the Pirate goalkeeps left side which pulled him out of position.
Two minutes later Riverside responded with a goal by Luis Villegas off a centering pass. That tied the match at 1-1.
Then in the 21st minute Junior Olvera scored for the Pirates off a centering pass. That gave Riverside the 2-1 lead.
Culver then scored an equalizer in the 30th minute when the ball rolled in for a score out of a scrum of players in front of the goal. That tied the match at 2-2 at the half.
Riverside the first goal of the second have in the 46th minute on a shot up the middle by Kevin Madrigal to take the 3-2 lead.
Riverside scored in the 59th minute when Alexis Mendoza scored off a centering kick in front of the goal. Riverside led 4-2.
Alexis Mendoza scored again in the 72nd minute off another centering pass to give Riverside their 5-2 win.
