HERMISTON - The Burns Hilanders defeated the Heppner Mustangs 49-0 to win the OSAA 2014 2A football championship on Saturday, November 29, 2014. It was the middle game of an OSAA championship triple header that included 1A and 3A championship games.

It was another winter-like day for Hermiston. It seemed more like late December with overcast skies, the temperature in the 20s with snow falling on and off until the afternoon when a freezing drizzle rolled through the area.

Picking up action late in the first quarter with Burns leading 14-0 and driving to score another on a pass with 20 seconds to go. The two point conversion was missed giving Burns the 20-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Burns started off the second quarter picking off a Heppner pass. Three plays later the Hilanders scored on a 26 yard touchdown run. The two point conversion was good giving Burns the 28-0 lead.

Heppner went four and out punting to the Hilanders. Burns then took the ball and in three plays scored on a 50 yard pass to Trace Tiller. The PAT was missed giving Burns the 34-0 lead.

The teams exchanged possession of the ball with the Hilanders next scoring drive beginning with 2:38 to go in the second quarter. Three plays was all it took for Austin Feist to score on the quarterback keeper. The PAT was missed giving Burns the 42-0 lead.

Burns led 42-0 at halftime.

Heppner took the second half kickoff and put together an eight play drive only to have to punt it. The Hilanders then took the ball 85 yards in five plays to score on a 31 yard pass to Trey Recanzone. The PAT was good giving Burns the 49-0 lead. That also meant the clock would run continuously for the rest of the game.

The fourth quarter flew by with the Hilanders burning up nearly 10 minutes of the fourth quarter on a drive that fizzled on the Heppner 12 yard line. Heppner took over on downs with 2:30 to go in the game. Heppner ran four plays before the game ended with Burns winning 49-0.
