STANFIELD - The Irrigon Knights defeated the Stanfield Tigers 68-55 on Saturday, January 24, 2015. It was really nice sunny Saturday with almost spring like temperatures.
The two teams are among the best in the area with the Knighst 14-1 and the Tigers 13-2 coming into the game.
It was back and forth during the first quarter of play. The first points for Irrigon were scored on freethrows. Stanfield came right back and scored five points in a row including a trey to take the 5-2 lead. Fredy Vera then scored for Irrigon on a drive and free throw tieing it up at 5-5. The teams were tied again at 7-7. Anthony Landeros of Irrigon hit two freethrows to give Irrigon the 9-7 with 2:43 to go in the first quarter. The Knights never relinquished the lead after that. Stanfield went scoreless in the final three minutes of the quarter while Irrigon hit a layup and jump shot to take the 13-7 lead at the buzzer.
Irrigon outscored Stanfield 15-11 in the second quarter as the Knights stretched their lead to as much as 13 points over the course of the second quarter. Among the Knights scoring in the second were Fredy Vera, Anthony Landeros and Adrian Romero. Scoring for the Tigers in the second quarter were Erik Galarza, Jesus Carrillo, Elvis Lockwood, Tony Flores and Hunter Braithwaite. Irrigon led 28-18 at halftime.
The third quarter was a high scoring one with the Knights outscoring the Tigers 20-17. Scoring for Irrigon included Anthony Landeros who hit two treys then had back to back steals for lay ups, Zach Rice and Adrian Romero. Scoring for the Tigers included Hunter Braithwaite, Dylan Grogan, Milan Davchevski and Elvis Lockwood. Irrigon led by 13 at the end of the third quarter 48-35.
Both teams scored 20 points in the fourth quarter as the action on the court was fast. Scoring for Irrigon included Anthony Landeros, Fredy Vera with two treys and Adrian Romero. Scoring for the Tigers included Hunter Braithwaite, Dylan Grogan, Tony Flores, Ryan Bailey and Thyler Monkus. Irrigon won 68-55.
