IRRIGON - The Irrigon Knights punched their ticket for the OSAA 2A State Tournament Finals at Pendleton by defeating the Vernonia Loggers 97-40 on Friday February 27, 2015. The Knights were firing on all cylinders from the starters to the bench players who took over in the fourth quarter.
It was a full house at the Irrigon gym for the 2A state play-in game. Irrigon took control early doubling the score at 26-13 with 1:38 to go in the first quarter. Knights led 30-17 at the end of the first quarter.
Irrigon continued to pull away from the Loggers in the second quarter out scoring Vernonia 14-9. Knights scoring in the second quarter included Zach Rice, Ryan Reynolds, Adrian Romero and Anthony Landeros. Irrigon led by 18 points at halftime 44-26.
The Knights had a tremendous third quarter outscoring Vernonia 33-6 in a great display of basketball prowess and athleticism. Knights scoring in the third included Adrian Romero with 8 points, Fredy Vera with 6 points, Anthony Landeros with 5 points, AJ Timpy, Zach Rice and Nate Verley. Irrigon led by 45 points 77-32 at the end of the third quarter.
Irrigon continued to dominate play in the fourth quarter even with replacing starters with players off the bench. Knights out scored Vernonia 20-8 and came within thiree points of hitting the century mark. The crowd even chanted "100" with about three minutes to go in the game. Knights scoring in the fourth quarter included Anthony Landeros, Austin Rice, Zach Rice, Oscar Romero and Nate Verley. Irrigon defeated Vernonia 97-40 and move on to the OSAA 2A finals at Pendleton beginning March 5, 2015.
