Hood River Valley Eagles Defeated Hermiston Bulldogs In Softball

HERMISTON - The Hood River Valley Eagles defeated the Hermiston Bulldogs 10-7 in softball on Tuesday, May 12, 2015. It was a back and forth game with the teams tied or exchanging the lead five times over the course of the game. Big innings for Hood River came in the top of the fifth when they scored three runs and the top of the seventh when they scored three runs to take the lead. Hermiston had a big inning in the bottom of the seventh when they scored five runs.

It was one of those afternoons that was sunny, hazy and cloudy depending on what time it was. It was also breezy with the temperature around 68 degrees.

Hermiston scored first in the bottom of the first inning with the bases loaded when Kalene Wheeler made it home. Moments later Ashley Moser scored on a sac bunt by Abi Drotzmann. Hermisotn led 2-0 at the end of the first inning.

Hood River finally scored in the top of the fourth on a hit to centerfield driving in two runs to tie the score at 2-2.

Hood River next scored in the top of the fifth inning when a hit to right-center field drove in two runs. Moments later a hit to left field drove in another runner. Hood River Valley led 5-2 midway through the fifth inning.

Hood River Valley scored two more runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 7-2 lead.

Hermiston then showed a lot of determination as they battled back in the bottom of the sixth inning to score five runs. First run in the sixth was driven in on a hit by Bobbi Hafbauer. The fourth run was scored on a runner driven in by Jaime Hinkley. That cut the Eagles' lead to 7-4. Kalene Wheeler then hit a grounder that was overthrown allowing Mofbauer and Hinkley to score. That cut the Eagles' lead to 7-6. Ashley Moser then hit to centerfield scoring Wheeler and tieing the game at 7-7. A fly out ended the inning with the teams tied 7-7 at the end of the sixth inning.

The Eagles then scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 10-7 lead.

Hermiston went three up and three down in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Hood River Valley Eagles won the game 10-7.
