UMATILLA - The Irrigon Knights defeated the Umatilla Vikings 39-12 on Friday September 18, 2015. It was a nice September evening with the temperature around 70 degrees and cooling off at halftime.
Umatilla scored at the very end of the first half with just seconds to play to close to six points of the Knights. Irrigon led 18-12 at halftime.
The second half started off with the teams exchanging possession of the ball. Irrigon scored their next touchdown when they took a punt from the Vikings with 4:40 to go in the third quarter. The Knights then went on an eight play drive that ended with a three yard touchdown run by Fredy Vera. The two point conversion on a keeper by quarterback Nate Verley. That gave Irrigon the 26-12 lead with 1:33 to go in the third quarter.
Umatilla then went four and out punting to Irrigon which had a nice return. An unsportsmanlike call against the Vikings moved the ball to the Umatilla nine yard line. Fredy Vera then ran it in for a touchdown with 10 seconds to go in the third quarter. The PAT was good giving Irrigon the 33-12 lead.
Umatilla looked like they were on a roll at the beginning of the fourth quarter as they put together a 12 play drive that took them all the way to the Irrigon 15 yard line. The Vikings unfortunately had two incomplete passes and ended up giving the ball to Irrigon after being unable to pick up a first down.
The next scoring drive when Irrigon took possession of the ball with 6:26 to go in the game. The Knights then put together a five play drive that ended with a 26 yard touchdown run by Carlos Zacharias. The PAT was missed giving Irrigo the 39-12 lead with 3:59 to go in the game.
The teams exchanged possession of the ball during the rest of the game but neither team scored during the closing minutes of the game. Irrigon won the game 39-12.
